Future site

A bit more about my future site: (I finish training and swear in as a PCV on April 13!)
First: check out the Wikipedia page on Sidama zone - it's interesting!
Language: Sidamu-Afoo and Amharic.
Primary Ethnic Group: Sidama.
Topography: green and mountainous.
Temperature: 50s-80s (F).
Altitude: 2343 meters.
Religion: 90% Protestant Christian.
3 hours (via minibus) from Hawassa (SNNPR capital).
Electricity and cell phone network available (in my house and town).
One health center, one primary school, one secondary school.

Work: water, sanitation, hygiene, and reproductive health projects and education with family caregivers at households and youth at primary and secondary schools. (Eg building latrines - there is a lot of open-defecation in Sidama, nutrition counseling and demonstrations, murals at the health center, etc.)

The first three months (mid-April until mid-August) will be primarily spent with community integration and participatory research.

My seeds for garden projects at site!

Yum!

The best meal I've had in Ethiopia so far - at a restaurant/juice bar in a nearby town

Site Announcements

On Friday I learned where I will be posted for two (+) years! I will be in SNNPR (Southern Nations Nationalities and People's Region) in the Sidama zone. I'm replacing a Peace Corps Volunteer who will be doing a third year in the Peace Corps (she's doing year 3 in the regional capital). When I have internet again I'll post more about the site and potential projects.
